An exhibition on Taiwan children’s books is running Aug. 1-20 at Nakanoshima Children’s Book Forest in Osaka, Japan, according to the Ministry of Culture.

Entitled “Made in Taiwan, Loved in Pictures,” the event features 50 books grouped under the themes of art and crafts, daily life, folk tales, food culture, Indigenous peoples, natural wonders, and religions, the MOC said, adding that the selections will help readers gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s rich and unique cultural heritage.

Speaking at the launch, exhibition curator Su Yi-chen described Taiwan as an archipelago where the diverse cultural influences of Indigenous groups, Southern Fujian and Hakka immigrants, and Japanese colonial legacy intermingle. Through the vivid narratives found in picture books, the exhibition invites the world to feel the life force and resilience of Taiwan, she said.

According to the MOC, activities will be held alongside the exhibition to bring the books to life. Among them is a mime performance by New Taipei City-based L'Enfant S. Physical Theatre set to take place Aug. 8 that will reinterpret the classic story “Tiger Aunt” by Wang Chia-chen through dance and live interaction.

The exhibition is part of We TAIWAN, a key cultural initiative at Expo 2025 Osaka taking place Aug 2-20, at Grand Green Osaka’s VS., Osaka City Central Public Hall, Nakanoshima and online. A total of 38 artistic teams comprising over 545 members from Taiwan and Japan will present 129 performances, the MOC concluded. (POC-E)
